Hull War and XS AVN52 (War Risks)

  • Bruce founded HIVE Underwriters Ltd. in November 2017

    Prior to forming HIVE, Bruce was a partner and underwriter with Cathedral Underwriting having joined from Atrium Underwriting in October 2014, where he worked for 27 years.

    Bruce has specialised in Aviation War for more than 30 years and pioneered the use of third party intelligence sources for threat assessment with a “knowledge-led underwriting” philosophy. He was the first underwriter to develop a ground accumulation model to monitor aircraft exposures at key airports and worked closely with Lloyd’s on their Market Insight Publication “Aviation War, Ground Exposure Management” in Dec 2016.

    As a recognised leader in the class he is a regular speaker at aviation conferences as well as contributor to various aviation publications, including writing the Aviation Chapter for the Insurance Institute of London (IIL), “War Risks and Terrorism, Research Study Book”.

    He formed part of the Aviation Insurance Clauses Group (AICG) when first created in 2005 and was the driving force in developing the current Hull War wording (LSW555D). He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a Chartered Underwriting Agent and served as a member of Council for the Insurance Institute of London (IIL) from 2009-2012, together with the London Insurance Institute Aviation Lectures Committee from 2004-2012.

    Bruce is a member of the International Union of Aerospace Insurers (IUAI) Executive Committee, having served on the Airline Study Group since 2004, he was Deputy Chairman of the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) Aviation Hull War Forum 2014 - 2017 and International Director for the Aviation Insurance Association (AIA) 2014 - 2019.

  • Will joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. in July 2018

    Prior to joining HIVE, Will worked at Talbot Underwriting where he was Class Underwriter for the General Aviation book. He began his insurance career at XL in 2006.

    Will has specialised in Aviation Insurance for over 17 years and has a detailed knowledge of the Aviation Insurance sector. Will gained his ACII qualification in 2008 and became Chartered in 2010.

  • David joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. in December 2023

    David was previously Head of Aviation War at Inigo and has more than 10 years of experience in insuring against violent and political risk.

    He began his underwriting career at Atrium where he was responsible for the Aviation War account. He holds a master’s degree in international relations, specialising in foreign policies of east Asian states. He has previously lived in China, the United States, and Denmark, and is fluent in Danish.

  • Izzy joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. in June 2021

    Before joining HIVE, Izzy worked as an administrative assistant at CV Starr working on the Aerospace and General Aviation accounts.

    In her role as Assistant Underwriter, Izzy works predominantly on the XS AVN52 and Hull War accounts. She is currently working towards obtaining her Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications.

  • Archie joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. in June 2023

    Prior to joining HIVE, Archie studied criminology at university, completing a dissertation on UK terrorism threat.

    Archie is an Underwriting Assistant on the All Risks account and is currently working towards obtaining his Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications.

  • Ben joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. in August 2020

    Prior to joining HIVE, Ben was a Deputy Aviation Underwriter at Antares Underwriting working across the Airline and Aerospace accounts where he began in 2016. Ben began his insurance career at Chaucer Syndicates in 2008 where he also worked cross-class, including General Aviation.

    Ben is ACII qualified and has worked with some of the most experienced underwriters in the aviation insurance market over 12 years gaining a depth of knowledge and expertise in that time.

  • Andrew joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. In October 2020

    Andrew has a 20 year history in the Aviation Insurance market and prior to joining HIVE he held the position of Senior Underwriter at MS Amlin. Andrew began his insurance career at Wellington Underwriting before progressing to positions at Catlin Underwriting and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance.

    Andrew has cross-class experience and has specialised in the Aerospace sector, being elected to the Manufacturers, Products and Airports study group of the International Union of Aviation Insurers in 2018. He became ACII qualified in 2006 and was accredited as a Chartered in 2010.

    Prior to joining HIVE, Amy held positions at Inigo and Starstone as Assistant Underwriter.

    Amy has over 8 year’s London market experience, providing underwriting support within the Hull War and General Aviation classes of business and has gained her Cert CII.

  • Jay joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. In March 2023

    Jay has over 20 years London market experience. Prior to joining HIVE he worked at Tokio Marine Kiln, where he held the position of Head of General Aviation.

    Jay has a wealth of cross-class underwriting expertise, specialising in General Aviation. During his career he has played pivotal roles in the setup of Lloyd’s of London consortia, establishing global coverholder networks and first to market Insurtech solutions. Jay achieved ACII status in 2008.

  • David joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. In October 2020

    David’s 50-year career in the London insurance market has included 25 years at Jardine’s, 10 years at Marsh and 10 years at Chubb. Most of his working life has been spent in claims, in particular aviation claims, and has included technical and management roles. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Underwriting Agent.

  • Mark joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. in October 2019

    Mark has more than 30 years of experience within the London market, with a career to-date that includes analytical roles within both the adjusting and broking sectors.

    He began his insurance career at Lloyd’s Aviation Department in 1991 and subsequently worked at Airclaims, before moving to the Aviation division of Willis and then on to Marsh.

    Mark is responsible for Portfolio and Data Analytics and brings to HIVE a broad knowledge of the Aviation Industry as a whole.

  • Crispin joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. in July 2023

    Crispin has over two decades of experience in various industries from fresh produce to finance where He has held senior roles in commercial, operational and project management capacities. His expertise lies in developing and optimising processes to enhance internal efficiencies and reduce costs, a skill he has applied to multiple SMEs.

    Crispin’s knowledge extends to the set up and support of Managing General Agents, as well as the management and supervision of delegated authority programmes. He has played a pivotal role in implementing delegated authority procedures across the market and overseen extensive audit programmes on behalf of Lloyd’s Managing Agents. Crispin has been a director of HIVE Underwriters Ltd. since the formation of the company.

  • Nikki joined HIVE Underwriters Ltd. in June 2018

    Nikki has more than 25 years’ experience in the (re)insurance London market, having worked at TransRe for 12 years as a Reinsurance Claims examiner, adjusting multi class claims from initial notification to final settlement. She was the aviation claims specialist at TransRe, appraising senior management of aviation market-wide legal and claims developments, which assisted actuarial and reserving assessment.

    Prior to TransRe, Nikki was a Client Liaison Account Manager for 13 years with Aon’s Aviation reinsurance claims department. Her key role was liaising with leading reinsurers and the Lloyd’s Claims office re contentious claims issues and market developments, enabling speedy recovery of claims settlements. She was also instrumental in the creation of Aon’s Aviation loss book ACRASH, compiling loss data and reserving history.
